You, clothed in lovely feathers your father made,
Your beauty provoked jealousy even from God.
With a flap of wings, borders on earth faded.
Aspiration made you fly up higher and higher.
Alas, didn't you know, that the burning eye,
With the insistent staring, would not fail to detect you?
Who says, to excessive passion your fall was due?
So sublime was it to disclose the forbidden, though.
Into the abyss of calmness was sunken
Your desire, seeking to breathe in the eternity.
No more restlessness in the earthly businesses,
For now at last you can have an eternal rest.
Horrors! Nobody casts an eye on your cold death,
On the sea, in the field and in the furrows.
